How to use
Upload one bug photo, then compare the result with the five closest visual matches.
Best photos
Crop close to one bug, keep it sharp, and avoid photos with multiple bugs or large background objects.
Check the result
IDs are not perfect. Use the top-5 images to confirm, and ask AI to overread uncertain results.

Identification Limits
Bug IDs can be wrong, especially from blurry, distant, juvenile, damaged, or partial photos. Compare the result with the reference images and use AI overread only as a second opinion.
Health And Bite Concerns
Do not use this app to decide whether a bite, sting, allergic reaction, or possible tick exposure is safe. For urgent symptoms, contact local emergency services, poison control, or a clinician.
Better Photos
Crop close to one bug, keep the subject sharp, and avoid photos with multiple bugs when possible. Better photos usually improve the classifier and the AI review.
What The App Stores
TexasBugz stores each photo you upload (converted to JPEG), its original file name, the prediction results, any AI review result, and a record of each prediction, AI check, and most failed uploads, all linked to your sign-in account. This lets the app show your history and enforce the AI check limit, and the photos may be used to improve the model. Photos are deleted automatically 365 days after upload; prediction history is kept. There is no self-serve deletion or export yet.
AI Review
When the classifier's top match is below 50% confidence, TexasBugz automatically sends the photo and the candidate labels to Google Gemini for a second opinion. Pressing the AI check button sends them the same way. Automatic and manual checks both count toward 10 AI checks per account; after that, the classifier keeps working without AI. Do not upload photos containing sensitive personal information.
Accounts And Billing
Sign-in is handled by Clerk. Billing is not enabled.
Beta Software
TexasBugz is provided as a beta identification aid. Results may be incomplete or inaccurate, and supported classes will change as the model improves.
Responsible Use
You are responsible for confirming important identifications with field guides, experts, or local extension resources. Do not rely on the app for emergency, medical, legal, or pesticide decisions.
AI Checks
Each account currently gets 10 AI checks in total. AI checks may become a paid feature later.
